Dear Speech Pathologist,

I am referring Master Ethan Wright, a four-year-old boy, for assessment and management of a suspected expressive and receptive language delay.

Ethan’s parents have noticed a limited vocabulary (around 50 words) and difficulty forming sentences beyond two words. He struggles to follow instructions that are more than one step, and his frustration often results in tantrums during play. His preschool teacher has also expressed concern about his limited interaction with peers.

His birth and medical history are unremarkable, with no evidence of hearing or neurological problems. Examination of oral structures revealed no abnormalities. Notably, his older sibling experienced a similar but milder speech delay, which resolved without intervention.

Please provide a comprehensive language assessment and advise regarding therapy strategies. Parental guidance for home activities would also be valuable.

Yours sincerely,
Paediatrician
