Medical progress: Stable vital signs. Surgical drains functioning well. Physical therapy initiated to improve range of motion.

Nursing management: Pain management, wound care, emotional support, and assistance with activities of daily living.

Writing Task:

This letter is to update Dr. Davis on Mrs. Lewis's progress and readiness for discharge. In your answer:

Re: Mrs. Patricia Lewis, aged 62

I am writing to provide you with an update on the progress of Mrs. Patricia Lewis, who is currently under our care in the oncology ward at Willowbrook Cancer Center.

Mrs. Lewis was admitted on 8 November 2023 following her recent diagnosis of Stage III breast cancer and subsequent mastectomy on 12 November 2023. During her hospitalization, she has been receiving post-mastectomy care. Currently, she has surgical drains in place and is experiencing pain at the surgical site, as well as limited range of motion in the affected arm. Additionally, Mrs. Lewis has been experiencing emotional distress related to her diagnosis and surgery.

I am pleased to inform you that Mrs. Lewis's vital signs have remained stable, and her surgical drains have been functioning well. Physical therapy has been initiated to improve her range of motion and address the musculoskeletal challenges she is facing.

While Mrs. Lewis has made significant progress in her recovery, we anticipate that her readiness for discharge will be determined pending the completion of physical therapy and the removal of surgical drains. Our nursing team is also providing education to Mrs. Lewis on post-mastectomy self-care and rehabilitation exercises.

If you have any specific instructions or considerations for Mrs. Lewis's ongoing care, please do not hesitate to inform us. We will continue to provide her with the highest level of care and support during her stay.
