Dear Dr. Torres,

I am referring “Misty,” a nine-year-old spayed female domestic short-hair cat, for advanced diagnostic evaluation and management of suspected chronic feline asthma.

Misty has had a persistent dry cough for two months, accompanied by occasional wheezing and mild exercise intolerance. Her appetite and weight remain normal, and there is no nasal discharge or fever. Clinical examination revealed expiratory wheezes bilaterally, and thoracic radiographs showed mild bronchial wall thickening consistent with bronchial inflammation. Routine blood tests were unremarkable, and FeLV/FIV testing was negative.

She was started on a trial of oral corticosteroid and bronchodilator therapy, which resulted in partial but incomplete symptom relief. Given the chronic nature of her cough and radiographic findings, further assessment with bronchoscopy and airway lavage is warranted to confirm diagnosis and guide long-term management.

I would appreciate your expert evaluation and recommendations for ongoing treatment and environmental modification to prevent further exacerbations.

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Priya Nair, DVM
