Dear Dr. Lee,

I am referring Ms. Laura Bennett, a 28-year-old sales assistant, for surgical management of an infected ingrown toenail.

Ms. Bennett presented with a painful left hallux nail that has been symptomatic for two weeks. Despite antibiotic therapy prescribed by her GP and podiatric management with debridement and saline soaks, she continues to experience pain and purulent discharge. Examination revealed swelling, redness, and tenderness, significantly affecting her mobility.

Given the recurrent infection and persistent discomfort, I believe a partial nail avulsion would be the most appropriate next step. She has been educated about footwear choices and nail care, which she understands well.

Thank you for your attention to this case. Please let me know if further details are required.

Yours sincerely,
