Dear Speech Pathologist,

I am referring Miss Chloe Anderson, an eight-year-old schoolgirl, for assessment and management of persistent stuttering that is affecting her confidence and classroom participation.

Over the past six months, Chloe has exhibited frequent repetitions of initial sounds and occasional prolongations, which have led to avoidance of certain words and reluctance to participate in oral activities. Her teacher reports that she is increasingly anxious when required to read aloud or respond in class discussions. Parents note that Chloe avoids speaking with peers during play and experiences frustration when trying to communicate her ideas.

Chloe has normal hearing, normal oral structures, and age-appropriate cognitive and motor skills. There is no family history of speech disorders. Academically, she performs well, but her speech difficulties are impacting social engagement and self-esteem.

We would appreciate a detailed fluency assessment, followed by targeted speech therapy. Recommendations for classroom strategies, parental support, and anxiety-reduction techniques would be helpful to maximize her participation and confidence. Early intervention is important to prevent reinforcement of avoidance behaviors and to promote effective communication skills.
