To: Dr. Williams

Dear Dr. Williams,

I am writing to bring to your attention Mr. David Turner, a 47-year-old patient with a history of hypertension who has been taking Amlodipine 10mg once daily for the past six months.

Mr. Turner reports experiencing persistent ankle swelling for the last two weeks. Despite this, his blood pressure remains well controlled, averaging 125/80 mmHg. He has not experienced any other cardiovascular symptoms such as dizziness, chest pain, or palpitations.

Mr. Turner has been fully compliant with his treatment, and his lifestyle measures include moderate physical activity and adherence to a low-salt diet. However, the ankle swelling has become bothersome, and he is keen to explore alternative treatment options.

As you know, ankle edema is a common side effect of Amlodipine. In view of his stable blood pressure but discomfort with this adverse effect, I recommend reviewing his regimen and considering an alternative antihypertensive.

I would appreciate your advice on the next steps.

Yours sincerely,
[Pharmacist’s Name]
